September 09 Flying aroundToday was supposed to be a free day to get some appointments done, but the computers were down on base so appointments weren't happening. Instead of staying around the squadron and getting off earily I decided to see if I could hop on the Herc and fly along for the day. Good Choice! We flew up to Sherbrooke, QC and practiced some contour searches, its fun flying around the mountians with only a plexiglass door between me and what seems like the side of the mountian only a few feet away. After buzzing the mountians for a while we headed to the Sherbrooke airport for lunch, instead of landing we buzzed the airfield twice, once for a message dropper and a second time for a bundled then popped up to 3000' for a wind check then up to 7000' for a freefall. The word to jump came rather fast with only a 2 min warning(normally we get a 30sec notice) my partner motioned to go and then hop off the ramp. I had to run from the spotter chair out the end of the plane and dive after him, I went into a delta track to kill altitude and close up on my partner. I had just closed up and it was time to turn, track and pull. My chute opened nicely and I made my way over to the target for a leisurely right hand approach. Tough job, I know! We walked over to the airport had lunch and then flew back to Trenton. On the way back we linked up with a Coast Guard boat and practiced a pump and SRK drop. By the time we arrived back at the squadron everyone had gone home already, but I learned lots and had fun so it was well worth the later hours. Tomorrow I'm off to see my buddy Jer and his family in London, should be a nice ride on my motorcycle. September 02 Since its now rainingIts started raining so all my plans have been cancelled. I thought I might as well work on my new webspace. I've added in comments to all the photos I've uploaded, I think I got all the spelling error corrected. Even though its late, cold and still raining I'm toying with the idea of suiting up and riding to Tim Hortons, mmmm coffee. Not much left to do, I just finished reading ' The Liri Valley' a Canadian WW2 historical on part of the Itlalian campaign. A really good read for a non-fiction, the author,Mark Zuehlke, makes good use a of individual accounts and narrows the battles down to a more personal level. He has two other books out on the Itlalian campaign that I would like to buy. Its getting late but I've slept a good portion of the afternoon so I doubt I'll be able to sleep yet. I think I will head to Timmy's. Just StartedI've just started this site. I'm still working on it so if you have any comments or advise let me know. I've just uploaded a bunch of pictures from the past year I spent in Comox, BC on the Search and Rescue Technicians course at the Canadian Forces School of Search and Rescue. The title for the Pictures are a little vague but I'll work on that as I get time. For the non-military type out there(civies) Ops means operations. |
